Remdesivir, Gilead’s COVID-19 drug will cost $3,120 for patients on private insurance, while those on government health programs in the United States, will be charged $2,340.
Gilead will charge the government $390 per dose, while hospitals will be charged $520 per dose. Most patients would require 5- day treatment course. Those that require a longer treatment course, will have to have the drug for an additional 5 days.
The steep price was immediately criticised, with a consumer group calling this ‘an outrage’, since Gilead received $70 million in public funding.
Drug companies think only of their profits not of the well-being of the general population.

There is a lot of research that had to be done to find a treatment, but the price is too steep, when you consider that it:
1. Improves your recovery time by 31% and
2. Its a treatment, so if you get the virus later on, you have to take the drug again.
Remember its just a treatment and not a vaccine, so the price is not justified.
