Copacabana beach, one of the most famous beaches in Brazil, has been closed for sunbathers. Police were seen on the beach demanding the bathers to leave the area. The beaches in tourist areas remained open, but people can only use them for water sports or exercise, to slow the spread of the virus.
After President Jair Bolsonaro contracted the virus, after dismissing it as a ‘little flu’ for several months, the country seems to be starting to take the virus seriously.
It was reported that Bolsonaro took hydroxychloroquine pills for 5 days. The drug has no effect on COVID19, and it can cause several serious side effects such as cardiac arrhythmia. For this reason, Bolsonaro underwent several electrocardiograms and blood tests.
Brazil is the second worst-hit country in the world, having a total of 1,866,176 cases and 72,151 deaths since the pandemic began. Yesterday, Brazil reported 631 deaths.
