China has equipped its Mi-171 medium multirole helicopters with electronic countermeasures (ECM) pods. ECM pods are used to jam enemy radar systems, allowing the aircraft possessing them to penetrate through enemy lines undetected.
The People’s Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF) used these pods in their helicopters during a ‘penetration flight-training exercise’. The location of the exercise has not been revealed, but it was conducted most likely on November 11, and helicopters such as the Z-10 attack helicopters were also used.
This comes amid known Chinese buildup in Aksai Chin in the past 30 days. It has been revealed that along the 3,488km line of actual control (LAC), China is fortifying its defenses, even though it is in discussion with India for de-escalation. The Chinese military exercise using the ECM pods could be a hint for what will be used in an event another clash between China-India arises.
