On December 30, many containers were seen floating in the East China Sea. It is believed that the containers fell from the post-panamax container that was en-route to the USA. The container ship is known to have changed its destination and headed towards the nearest major port in the region. Most of the details are still unknown.

Thousands of shipping containers are lost in the sea every year, due to rough seas faulty or inadequate securing mechanisms. Recently, the ONE Apus container ship lost 2,000 containers enroute to California from Yantian in China due to rough seas. Read more about this here:
