On Thursday, United States Navy sent a guided-missile destroyer to the Taiwan strait in an attempt to show its commitment in supporting Taiwan for a free and open Indo-Pacific. This is the first time the warship passed through the Strait under Joe Biden’s administration.
The ship’s transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. The United States military will continue to fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows.

The US warship USS John S McCain passed through the Taiwan Strait with another US warship back on December 31, 2020 under the Trump administration. Last Tuesday, the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, threatened the new US administration, to not to interference with China’s internal affairs with Hong Kong, Taiwan and Xinjiang.
Regardless of this, US will continue to support Taiwan and continue its defense commitments, started by the previous administration, with Taiwan by selling F-16 fighter jets, main battle tanks and other advanced military equipment.
