The head of Gaza’s Fishermen syndicate and local authorities reported that a mysterious explosion off the coast of Khan Younis, Gaza, killed three Palestinian fishermen.
According to QNN news website, the three fishermen were from the same family, and they apparently died after a missile hit the boat.
It is not yet known who fired the missile, and an investigation has been launched to determine who might be behind the attack. The Israeli military denied responsibility for the attack.
The [Israeli military] is not responsible for the incident, and our indications show that their deaths were caused by an explosion inside Gaza.
Statement by Isreali military.
Since 2007, Israel has maintained a blockade on the Gaza strip. Fishermen can fish only in a zone designated by Israel due to security concerns.
Several local social media users suggested that the missile might have come from the local terrorist group, Hamas, which occasionally fire missiles towards the open sea. The Hamas interior ministry said it will investigate the incident.
