According to a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report, Israel attacked 12 ships since 2019, that were carrying Iranian oil and other weapons intended to go to Syria.
The report revealed that US officials admitted that Israel conducted attacks on such vessels since late 2019, and never sunk a ship, but forced two ships to return back to the Iranian port. Some of the attacks were conducted in the Red Sea. The transport of oil and weapons from Iran to Syria violates US sanctions on Iran and international sanctions on Syria.
Israel firmly believes that the delivery of oil and weapons to Syria will aid extremists to get stronger in the region. Israel did not comment since the release of the WSJ report.
So the oil on beaches this past week may have been the result of Israeli attacks which ended up fouling its own beaches?
