Several people have been wounded after a lone gunman opened fire in the letcure hall of the University of Heidelberg in the town of Heidelberg, located south of Frankfurt, Germany.

The police said that the lone gunman turned the gun on himself, but did not provide any more details. The 18-year old gunman used a long barreled firearm in the attack. He had no previous criminal history.

Huge amount of police and emergency personnel are present in the Neuenheimer Feld area of the town which is home to many university facilities. The motive of the attack is still unknown.

Update : One woman that was shot died a few hours later.
