The Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force announced that six Russian ships, including submarines and destroyers were spotted near Cape Soya in Hokkaido around midnight on 14th March.

The Russian flotilla than headed west to Soya strait. Last week, ten Russian Navy vessels passed through the Tsugaru Straits prompting Japan to increase vigilance.
