5.3-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Ecuador.

Minutes ago, a 5.3- magnitude earthquake struck in the South Pacific Ocean, 106 km north of Portoviejo, Provincia de Manabioff, Ecuador at a depth of less than 40km.

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might still be changed again later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their own reports.

The earthquake most likely did not cause any significant damage. It was most likely felt as weak shaking in Manta (pop. 183,200) located 126 km from the epicenter, Montecristi (pop. 18,400) 136 km away, and Caracas (pop. 37,100) 138 km away.
