Moments ago a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck 47 miles southwest of Eureka, Humboldt County, California, United States at a shallow depth of 2.4km.

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might still be changed again later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their own reports.

According to reports weak shaking occurred in Ferndale (pop. 1,400) located 34 miles from the epicenter, Rio Dell (pop. 3,400) 39 miles away, Fortuna (pop. 12,000) 39 miles away, Humboldt Hill (pop. 3,400) 43 miles away, Pine Hills (pop. 3,100) 45 miles away, Eureka (pop. 27,000) 47 miles away, Bayside (pop. 17,100) 53 miles away, Arcata (pop. 17,800) 54 miles away, and McKinleyville (pop. 15,200) 57 miles away. No infrastructural damage is expected.
