A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck 40km northwest of Vista Alegre, Peru, close to the Ecuador-Peru border, at a depth of 142.90km at 8.22am local time.
The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on preliminary data the earthquake should have not caused any significant damage, but was most likely felt by many people located in the vicinity of the epicenter.
