The German Development Minister, Gerd Muller said that Germany will be sending 330,000 testing kits and 600,000 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE). These have a total worth of €15 million.

Mr.Muller said that this aid is aimed at slowing down the spread of the virus in a country which has surpassed 4 million cases on Saturday. On the same day, India registered 86,432 cases. The rate of the spread of the virus in India is faster than that of the United States and Brazil. In 13 days the total number of cases in India increased from 3 million to 4 million cases. The Indian government has recently eased restrictions after a month-long lock-down, in an attempt to revive the economy.

Along with the testing kits, Germany will give India short-term loans worth €460 million. Food is also to be part of the aid package.

Muller said ‘This way, we are working together to ensure that food can be distributed to 800 million people and that bridging aid can be given to the 320 million people who have lost their jobs during the coronavirus crisis.’ Muller added that aid package to India is ‘one of the largest coronavirus support measures in the world.’
