Late on Saturday, an explosion occurred at a sports venue in Port Sudan killing four people. It is believed to have been a terrorist attack as an armed attack also occurred in the port before the explosion.

An explosive device went off at Al-Amir club .. killing four people. There was another attempt targeting a hotel in the it but it failed.

Three other people were wounded after being stabbed or shot. After the ousting of the Islamist President Omar Al Bashir in April 2019, who ruled the country for 30 years with an iron fist, rising insecurity led to several attacks. Recently, in Port Sudan, a key Red Sea Sudanese port, several protesters blocked roads as the country’s security worsens. The doctors’ committee blame the attack on ‘tribal strife’.

Earlier in May, the country declared a state of emergency and night curfews after the bloody trial events of May 24 in Port Sudan that killed at least five people and wounded 13.
