A huge explosion occurred in the Tanglidian village, Tieshan street in Wugang City, Henan Province, China on July 21st at about 4.16pm. Footage showed a huge plume of smoke coming from the area and a number of explosions in the vicinity.

The explosion seemed to have occurred due to a calcium carbide deflagration accident after water reacted with it. A number of people suffered burns as a result of the explosion. Nearby people had to be evacuated to ensure their safety during the continuous explosions. An investigation is still ongoing and no information has been provided so far except that calcium carbide was exposed to water.
