The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) just reported a 4.6-magnitude earthquake 22 km west of Barquisimeto, Municipio Iribarren, Lara, Venezuela at a shallow depth of 10km.

The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be changed again later on as seismologists review their data and calculations, or else as other agencies issue their own reports.

The moderate earthquake was most likely felt by a lot of people close to the epicenters. Towns such as Quibor (pop. 41,500) located 15 km from the epicenter, Barquisimeto (pop. 809,500) located 22 km from the epicenter, Los Rastrojos (pop. 34,600) 35 km away, Tocuyo (pop. 53,100) 39 km away, and Yaritagua (pop. 89,700) 48 km away most likely felt weak shaking.
