On Thursday morning, firefighters were battling a huge blaze engulfing the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township in 3950 block of West Maple Road. The place which was established in 1922 is known for having hosted many of the best golfers in the world in the past century. It hosted 6 US Opens and 3 PGA Championship.

The flames seem to have started around 10am, when it started from the roof of the private clubhouse as thick black smoke billowed from the building. Unfortunately, the fire spread rapidly to engulf the whole Country Club. The roof has since collapsed and the central part of the building has been essentially destroyed. More details to follow.
