Huge fire on board of a ship off the coast of Portsmouth.

Today at around 3.20pm the HM coastguard received a mayday from the vessel East Solent after a fire broke out in the engine room. Pictures posted on social media showed thick black smoke was seen billowing from the vessel.

There two people on board the vessel when a fire engulfed it. A Maritime Coastguard Agency Spokesman said,

Bembridge and Gosport lifeboats were sent and both people were evacuated from the vessel and the vessel was towed to an anchorage. Both Hampshire Fire and Rescue as well as the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending and a fire tug is proceeding, while all vessels have been advised to stay clear.
