On Tuesday, Nigerian troops managed to recapture the town of Marte and ‘adjoining communities’ from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists. The group split from Boko Haram back in 2016, and has become the dominant threat to peace in Nigeria. The soldiers were backed by air-support during the operation in the Northeast of the country.
The troops backed by air cover… successfully charged through Marte town, destroying several Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) and landmines laced across their route.
Statement by the army.
The town of Marte was seized last week by the ISWAP terrorists after they overran a military base, killing eight soldiers. The Nigerian troops charged through Marte town and managed to kill ‘scores’ of jihadists in the area. The government troops are now in complete control of the town.
