A meteor fell into an active volcano in Indonesia.

A meteor was photographed falling into the most active volcano in Indonesia, Mount Merapi. Its eruptions are so frequent that it is referred to as the ‘mountain of fire’.

Due to the current eruption people are not allowed to go within three miles of the volcano. The photographer, Gunarto Song went to Batu Alien to take photographs and was lucky enough to manage to capture a meteorite falling into the volcano as he took the picture of the volcano.

Several CCTV cameras in the vicinity filmed the events. There were two active meteor showers at the time, the Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower and the Arietid Meteor Shower. The green colour is apparently due to the high content of magnesium in the meteorite.
