Explosion at London train station.

On Monday at 1.43pm reports came in that a huge fire broke out near Elephant and Castle station in south London. Witnesses reported seeing a huge fireball and thick plume of black smoke coming from the station after an explosion.

All lines through Elephant & Castle are currently blocked. The fire brigade are assessing the situation.

A journalist in the vicinity of the train station reported lots of alarms going off and a strong smell of burned plastic in the air. The London Fire Brigade warned people to avoid the area and residents to stay indoors and close their windows. The fire brigade also said that 10 fire engines and 70 firefighter have been deployed to the scene to battle the huge fire. A huge number of police officers arrived at the scene moments ago.

Thameslink said that due to the fire, all train lines passing through Elephant and Castle are currently blocked. The Northern Line will not stop at the station. People were informed to use alternative routes.

You will have to use an alternative route to complete your journey and you should allow plenty of extra time to complete your journey.

Two people have been injured in the massive blaze, but no casualties were reported.
