On Monday morning, the Belgian supply ship, Express-54, which was engaged in excavation work, sank after it capsized due to a leak after hitting an underwater object or struck the bottom. The ship sank in Payra port of Patuakhali at the inner side of the Rabnabad channel. This information was confirmed by Sharifur Rahman, harbour master of Payra Port.

Aboard the ship there were 12 crew members- ten Indonesians and two Bangladeshi. All of the crew were saved and were unhurt in the accident, after Payra’s port tugboat rushed to their help.

During the excavation work of Payra Port channel, water got into the ship’s machine room through a hole. Realising the matter within minutes, the ship’s crew sought help from a nearby fishing trawler.
