The Delta variant (Indian) of coronavirus seem to have spread so much so that now it is third most often variant in the state.
The Department of Public Health revealed the increased spread of the virus among Californian people. Back in May, only 4.7% of the cases were due to the Delta variant. This shot up to 14.5% of the cases in June.
The Delta variant which originated in India is believed to be much more transmissible than the original coronavirus. It poses a greater chance for infection and hospitalization for unvaccinated people. This variant is also responsible for the current surge in cases in Israel and United Kingdom and the havoc it created in India. The variant spread was so fast the Israeli government recently reintroduced the mandatory mask mandate.
Fully vaccinated people are believed to be protected from the delta variant’s infection and illness.
